NVidia Forcedeth Ethernet Full-Duplex

Just an FYI, the NVidia Gigabit Forcedeth Ethernet driver in Linux uses the ethtool command to get and set the duplex rate and not the mii-tool like many other web pages erroneously state.

  • I can't think of any reason not to, but you do want to make sure that the duplex and speed matches whatever you are connected to. The reason I had to set it manually today was that the auto-negotiation failed, leaving the card set to half duplex and the other side full-duplex.
  • Good to know! Quick system administration question: when would you not want a NIC operating at full speed?
