What is FC Transfer on Amazon?

FC Transfer on Amazon is when Amazon is moving inventory from one Fulfillment Center (FC) to another, to ensure that your FBA orders can be shipped more efficiently.

For example, let’s say you send in your Amazon FBA inventory into a FC in California, but you have customers spread throughout the United States. Instead of keeping all your inventory in a single warehouse, Amazon uses sophisticated planning algorithms to determine where your customers are likely located. Then, it will move part of your inventory to a location closer to those customers. Say some in the Mid-West or East Coast of the United States.

There are hundreds of these warehouses spread strategically through the country, and this is a strategic asset that allows Amazon to ship so quickly on almost any item in it’s inventory.

What is an FC?

An FC is a Fulfillment Center, or Amazon Warehouse. A fun fact, many e-commerce providers call their version of a FC, Distribution Centers (DC), but Amazon reserves that name for it’s Data Centers (DC).

How does this affect my inventory

While an item is being moved between warehouses, it won’t be available for customer purchase. You can see how much of your inventory is affected in the reserved inventory reports.

How long does my inventory stay in this status?

It could remain in this status for up to 30 days, depending on how long it takes to ship between warehouses, and the resources that Amazon has allocated to do so.
